We are now in Olympos, on the south coast of the med. It is very sticky here – not really all that hot, but very very humid, and there is very little air flow, hardly a breeze to speak of. I can’t tell you how frustrated I am at not having a pair of shorts. You’d think I would have bought a pair by now, but I haven’t. Silly me.
We did go to the beach yesterday, it wasn’t too crowded, but I’m not used to going to public beaches, so it felt a little crowded to me. Mostly Turks yesterday, as it was Sunday (the weekends in Turkey are oddly enough Saturday and Sunday, despite Friday being their holy day. We have been told, and are noticing, that although Turkey is about 99% Muslim, they are not nearly as strict about it as the Arab countries we’ve come from (and we found them fairly liberal as well)). Even though the med is fairly warm (especially compared to northern Alberta lakes!) I’m still a little chicken to get in all the way – something about it being too cold. I know, I’m weird.
So we will be spending a few days here, not sure how long. We’ll probably veg out for a few days (though we are running out of books to read! It’s not always easy to trade, because some hostels/pensions don’t have good selection, sometimes no English selection at all; we are going to try and look into some outdoor activities, like horseback riding, if it isn’t too expensive. We did see a group go by this morning, that our hostess explained were going trekking, probably organized by a local hotel. I don’t know if we really want to spend a day hiking in this humidity – we are literally damp from just sitting still! We might just have to keep waiting… maybe until Bulgaria when we are away from the coastal humidity. Though from the pictures I’ve seen of Greece, I would really like to give it a go there. If it’s at all bearable.
I think the point of this post was really to say that we are going to veg out for a while, in this tiny little out of the way, in the middle of nowhere place, and don’t worry if you don’t hear from us for a few days. We’re probably lying in a hammock or frolicking in the ocean. 🙂
